GASTON COUNTY, N.C. One person has died and another remains hospitalized following a large house fire Sunday night at a property connected to NASCAR star Denny Hamlin in North Carolina.

According to a Facebook post from the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department, multiple fire departments from surrounding counties were called to the scene to battle the blaze. Photos shared by the department showed the main portion of the home fully engulfed in flames, with significant structural loss by the time the fire was extinguished.

“We are thankful for the multiple agency response and ask that the public be in prayer for the affected family and our first responders in fire, EMS, and police,” the department said in its post.

Two people were injured in the fire. Gaston County officials confirmed Monday that one of those individuals later died from their injuries. The identities of the victims have not been released, and the extent of the surviving individual’s injuries has not been disclosed.

Tax records indicate the property is owned by a company connected to Denny Hamlin and his father, Dennis Hamlin. As of early Monday morning, Hamlin — who is typically active on social media — had not publicly commented on the incident.

Fire officials have not yet released information regarding the cause of the fire, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The fire occurred just 10 days after a separate tragedy in the racing community, when a plane crash at Statesville Regional Airport claimed the lives of former

NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and six others.
